Apple Announces 8-core Mac Pro - Lowers Prices on Cinema Displays
8-core Mac Pro
Buyers can choose two 3.0GHz quad-core “Clovertown” processors — the fastest quad-core Xeon processors available from Intel giving users groundbreaking 8-core power. According to Apple, the 3.0GHz 8-core system runs up to 2x faster than the Power Mac G5 Quad.
Other options include quad-core systems with a pair of dual-core “Woodcrest” processors at 2.0GHz, 2.66GHz, or 3.0GHz. So regardless of the Mac Pro model chosen an 8-core or quad-core Intel Xeon system will deliver advanced performance, workstation graphics, and expansion flexibility.
8-core Mac Pro features include:
- Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300 series processors
- Intel Core microarchitecture Intel Xeon
- 8MB of L2 cache per processor (16MB total; each pair of cores shares 4MB)
- 128-bit SSE3 vector engine
- 64-bit data paths and registers
- Energy efficiency optimization
- 1.33GHz, 64-bit dual independent frontside buses
Quad-core Mac Pro features include:
- Two 2.0GHz, 2.66GHz, or 3.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100 series processors
- Intel Core microarchitecture
- 4MB of shared L2 cache per processor (8MB total)
- 128-bit SSE3 vector engine
- 64-bit data paths and registers
